BIOGRAPHY
Sohei Tsurutani, aka Slowman is a Tokyo-based artist.
He also works as the chief-buyer for Spiral Records,
one of the best record stores in Tokyo.
In the early 90's, he started his career as a DJ playing
jazz, hip hop and dub with Izuru Utsumi at the best
underground clubs in Tokyo. Also he was a resident DJ
at Yoyogi Friendship Project in Yoyogi Park 90-95,
which is Tokyo's original block party co-organized by
Kenji Hasegawa (Gallery), Sohei Tsurutani, and others.
Sohei has always played truley eclectic music from all over the world.
Getting a sampler in 98, he began to make his own unique music. After contributing to
2 compilations on Flower Records, he founded the independent label Bit of Heaven
and released Slowman's 1st album in 2002.
Sohei performs live using improvisational techniques, mixing together the raw elements
of the tracks, with a laptop and an MPC1000. In 2004 Slowman toured Europe
with a Bit of Heaven artist Jeremy Dower for the live gigs at such venues
as Batofar, Paris and ICA, London.
